Jay's lived experience

Our journey

Rise Sober grew from one man's recovery and a wish to help Punjabi and South Asian people find connection, choice and hope.

Where it began

Recovery became a new way of life.

My recovery started in treatment at The Haynes Clinic. From there, I found a new way of life through AA, a sponsor, the Steps, meetings, service and connection.

Faith had always been part of my identity, but I first had to become teachable and build a solid recovery foundation. When that ground became stronger, I was able to reconnect with Sikhi in a healthier way.

“What helped me in those first days and months was routine, structure and discipline—and just turning up.”
RoutineSmall actions repeated daily.
StructureMeetings, people and a plan.
DisciplineTurning up when it is hard.

What I learned

The opposite of addiction is connection.

Keep coming back

A gentle approach can still be serious. Recovery is yours, but you do not have to work it alone.

Pick up the phone

When fear, resentment or isolation grows, speak to somebody, message another person in recovery or get to a meeting.

One day at a time

Stay in the present, do the next right thing and trust that you are exactly where you need to be today.
